Class Guidelines:

For-credit students note: Items in bold will affect your grade.

You are responsible for reading this syllabus.
No adjustments will be made in mid-semester for failure to take note of its contents.

We hold participants to professional standards of behavior and discipline.
Participants in this program are hiring one another for the serious pursuit of the pleasure of chamber music.  The morale of the class is high because people respect the standards of attendance.

You are responsible for knowing the class calendar.

1. ABSENCE & LATENESS: Telephone
(212) 727-0566
  • in advance if you know you will be absent (so that a sub may be found)
  • if you are going to be late
  • if you have a last-minute emergency, even if you can't phone in advance

DO NOT PHONE MANNES
DO NOT E-MAIL MESSAGES ABOUT ATTENDANCE THE DAY OF CLASS

2. Two excused absences are permitted.   Excused absence is by prior arrangement only
You must telephone Yuri Vodovoz in order for the absence to be excused.
No for-credit student is excused from a performance.

3. Two unexcused absences result in the student being dropped (fail) from the class.

4.
You must have your music.  Failure to respect the guidelines re music will affect your grade.  We will no longer allow sections to take home music signed out in an instructor's name.  It is imperative that 2 copies of the score/parts be accessible at all times.  If you have any question regarding this matter please contact Yuri vodovoz, so that there is a clear direct line of         communication.

5. Designate one member of your group to be "librarian:" to be responsible for signing out library materials, and to make sure that parts are available in case of subs.  (Important: tell Yuri Vodovoz who the librarian is!)

6. Even though you see only one of us at a time the coaches strive to function as a team.  To reinforce the notion of team work we ask that you direct all messages about problems, questions, uncertainties to all of us.  The best way to do that is to e-mail: artists@alaria.org.   If you tell us on May 12 that your group was having problems we can't help you.

Our goal in this program is to help your group work well together despite the fact that you play different instruments, come from different backgrounds, and have different motivations for playing --just as we coaches do.  Remember that we can assist you only if you let us know what keeps you from enjoying your time alone as a group.  We have worked for many years to develop this program; it means a great deal to us that each of you is engaged in its continuing strength.  We welcome suggestions.  The class has developed greatly over the years largely due to input from the participants.
